Young people want to know and work. Discussions and decisions is a language that is too slow for many of them. When young people choose their education, they will probably look at where they learn green skills and act towards a greener development.
The Young in the Greening of the Economy
Young people are among those that care most about climate change and want to do something about it. Almost half of the participants in a survey said they thought climate change was severe. Over a third told they’d like to work for an employer that is doing something positive for the future of our planet. [1]
More and more people are interested in green development. You will find such interest in the industry and the education system.
‘Green’ can become a selling factor to attract attention and learners. The smooth transition to a greener economy depends on simultaneously developing the required skills by resource-efficient processes and technologies and integrating these in businesses and communities. [2]
TVET and Apprenticeships can play an accelerating role as supporters and facilitators of the greening of the economy.

Demand for Green Knowledge
Everyone can do something. How to do it? How to contribute to greener development? WWW has made a list of six things to help save our planet [3]:

- BE INFORMED
- BE POLITICAL
- TRAVEL RESPONSIBLY
- EAT SUSTAINABLY
- REDUCE YOUR WASTE
The second thing to do to help save our planet is to keep yourself informed – the more you know, the better. Get yourself clued up on the facts, stay up to date with recent news on the state of our natural world and work out what you can do. Knowledge leaves you better equipped to have those conversations with your friends and family and the people you want to influence.
TVET is expected to play a crucial role in preparing learners for emerging green jobs and providing them with green skills and competencies. Educational intuitions that focus on green development will in the future be the winners in the competition for the best students. However, while the demand for green skills is growing globally, TVET systems in many countries struggle to respond and cater to these needs.
Greening TVET describes the efforts to foster the culture of sustainable practices in TVET and facilitate the transition to climate-resilient societies, greater resource efficiency, and a circular economy.
Are the Educational institutions ready for the new demand?
If an educational institution wants to attract students, the school should probably focus on teaching green skills and show the students how to act towards a greener development. To manage this, the schools need to upskill their teachers and trainers.
We wonder if the colleges, universities, and TVET institutions have teachers and trainers that can meet this new demand from the students.
